Jagran correspondent, Mohali. The police has achieved great success under the anti-drug campaign in the district. The team of Police Station Balongi, while patrolling in Green Enclave area on January 18, 2026, saw a suspicious person trying to escape. When he was stopped and searched, 15.25 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession.
The accused was identified as Baljeet Singh alias Harman, originally a resident of village Rana Kalan in Amritsar district and was currently living in a rented house in Balongi village.
In this case, a case was registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the accused was arrested and after being produced before the court, he was sent to judicial custody.
According to police records, the accused also has a previous criminal history. Cases have been registered against him in theft and related sections in May 2024 and in serious criminal cases in February 2025.
The team led by Inspector Periwinkle Grewal took action in this operation under the direction of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, SP Manpreet Singh and other senior officers. The team included Head Constable Gurtej Singh, Constable Jagjit Singh and Ajay Gill. Police have made it clear that this campaign against drug trafficking will continue without any concessions.
