During the budget session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, the issue of drinking water shortage and water quality in Jhajjar area figured prominently during the question hour. Former Education Minister and MLA Geeta Bhukkal also expressed concern over the supply of dirty water in the villages of the area and the increasing TDS level, cornering the government.
It is noteworthy that Dainik Jagran had recently run a detailed campaign regarding these problems and had prominently published the dangerous level of TDS and the condition of poor water bodies, the effect of which was also seen in the proceedings of the House.
During the discussion, the harm caused by bottled water was also discussed. On which CM Nayab Singh Saini appealed to the general public through the House to stop using plastic to avoid diseases and move towards water conservation.
In this context, Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa assured that the repair and purification work in Salhawas and surrounding areas will be completed by August 2026.
Issue of drinking water crisis raised in these villages
MLA Geeta Bhukkal raised the issue of the poor condition of water works of Kaliyawas, Khanpur Kalan, Mundsa, Khorra, Bahu, Naugaon, Salhawas, Matanhail, Dhana, Dhanirwas and Jhajjar city. He said that the boundary walls of many water houses are broken and the water coming from the canals is being supplied without proper purification. Especially in Nagaon, complaints were lodged about leakage and mixing of dirty water due to years old pipelines.
TDS and health concerns
Expressing concern over the TDS level, the MLA said that contrary to the standards of the World Health Organization, salty water is being supplied in many areas, due to which cancer, bone diseases and kidney related problems are increasing. He demanded the government to ensure regular cleaning of water storage tanks. Leakage in drinking water pipelines should be stopped immediately. Apart from this, the quality of packed water and plastic bottles should also be checked.

Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa, while answering the MLA's questions in detail, said that the government is committed to providing clean water to every household. The Minister gave the following assurances to the House-
32 colonies will get clean drinking water
Amidst discussions about drinking water problems, there is news of great relief for the residents of the city. In response to the question raised in the Assembly by MLA Geeta Bhukkal, the government has clarified that a special plan has been prepared to ensure drinking water supply in 32 newly approved colonies of Jhajjar city.
The process of allocating the necessary budget for infrastructure and water supply in these colonies has been expedited. Assured that the department has completed the technical survey for laying the pipeline network and the tender process will be started soon.
