Blood test can detect signs of a deadly disease like Alzheimer's.

Anup Kumar Singh, New Delhi. Now signs of a fatal disease like Alzheimer's can be detected through blood test. This will be possible due to important scientific research done by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi regarding timely identification of Alzheimer's. Which was presented on the fifth AIIMS Research Day.

In this study by AIIMS scientists, an attempt is being made to understand how the early signs of Alzheimer's disease appear in the body by analyzing the protein pattern of 'plasma small extracellular vesicles' present in the blood. The initial results of the research are encouraging. This research of AIIMS is not only important from the point of view of medical science, but is also a ray of hope for millions of families and people who are struggling with diseases like Alzheimer's.

Research of the Department of Biophysics and Department of Geriatric Medicine

Carried out in joint collaboration with the Department of Biophysics and Department of Geriatric Medicine, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Senior scientist Dr. Saroj Kumar of the Department of Biophysics is providing scientific direction and guidance to the research. The lead researcher is Dr. Rishabh Singh, who is associated with the Department of Biophysics and is working on plasma-based small extracellular vesicles in Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Prasun Chatterjee, Additional Professor, Department of Geriatric Medicine, is looking at the clinical and therapeutic aspects of patients associated with Alzheimer's and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) in this research.

In the research, scientists focused on extremely tiny particles called 'extracellular vesicles' present in the blood. These particles are released by the cells of the body and carry with them information about internal changes. According to Rishabh Singh, 'In neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, the form of proteins present within these vesicles starts changing. These changes can give early signs of the disease.

important for common people

Currently, Alzheimer's disease is often diagnosed when the disease has advanced significantly. Because expensive scans and complex diagnostic procedures are not possible for every patient. According to Dr. Prasun Chatterjee, 'If the initial symptoms of the disease are caught through blood test, then it can be easier to plan timely care and treatment of elderly patients.'

Dr. Saroj Kumar, senior scientist of the Department of Biophysics, said that the objective of this research is to identify such biomarkers, which can give early information about Alzheimer's without pain and complicated process. Although this study is still at the research stage, it is expected that in the future this technology will become a reliable tool in identifying and understanding the progression of Alzheimer's.
