Taking an important decision regarding the prevention of cervical cancer in women, the Central Government has decided to include the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccine in the National Immunization Program (UIP). In this sequence, the roster for training of health workers from Doon Hospital has been released.

Principal of Government Doon Medical College Hospital and senior gynecologist Dr. Geeta Jain said that in Uttarakhand also the health department is alert and active regarding this decision. The government's inclusion of it in the national program is a historic step in the field of women's health.

Told that HPV is a common virus, which can later cause cervical cancer in women. This cancer is among the leading causes of cancer death among women in the country. The HPV vaccine provides protection before the disease occurs, significantly reducing the risk of cancer.

Under the government scheme, the main target of HCV vaccination will be adolescent girls aged nine to 14 years. Experts say that the vaccine has the maximum effect in this age group. With the inclusion of this vaccine at the national level, its reach will also be ensured to the remote and economically weaker sections of the country.

By joining UIP, the vaccine will become widely accessible.

Experts say that if this program is implemented effectively, there will be a decline in the cases of cervical cancer and the death rate due to it in the coming years.

Currently, HPV vaccine is available in the private sector, while in some states and medical institutions, it is also being given free or at subsidized rates. But, its inclusion under the National Immunization Program will make this vaccine widely accessible. There is a need to increase awareness in the society regarding HPV vaccination so that misconceptions and hesitation can be removed.
