State Bureau, Patna. The Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police, which is busy investigating the network of cyber criminals in the state, has identified 616 Mule Bank accounts this year. In the investigation of cyber fraud, these suspicious accounts have been found, against which correspondence has been made with the concerned districts for further action.
In this case, four criminals have also been arrested from Begusarai. Apart from this, 9252 mobile numbers and 3840 IMEIs being used in cyber crimes have also been blocked. Mule accounts are bank accounts into which cyber criminals send fraudulent amounts. These accounts are sometimes also taken on commission.
According to the annual report of EOU, 24 lakh 38 thousand calls related to cyber crime have been answered on NCRP (National Cyber Crime Portal) helpline 1930 till December 15 this year.
One lakh 10 thousand online complaints related to cyber fraud have been received on NCRP, while more than 24 thousand online complaints have been received related to internet media and other cyber crimes. The Social Media Patrolling Unit has taken down 356 objectionable posts till November, while FIRs have been registered in various police stations against 108 people who posted objectionable posts.
Amount of Rs 106 crore held, amount of Rs 7.36 crore refunded
According to EOU, 5624 cases of cyber crime have been reported in all the cyber police stations of the state, in which about one thousand cyber criminals involved have been arrested. Acting on complaints of cyber fraud, an amount of Rs 106 crore 30 lakh has been held in the accounts of the suspects. This year, an amount of Rs 7.36 crore has been returned to the victims of cyber fraud by cyber police stations.
Formation of cyber slavery desk, return of 29 victims
EOU has also constituted a Cyber Slavery Desk to bring back the youth trapped in cyber slavery by going to South Asian countries like Thailand and Bangkok on the pretext of providing good jobs abroad. With its help, verification of the agent sending abroad is being done. This year, cooperation has also been provided in rescuing 13 victims trapped in cyber slavery in March and bringing back 16 victims in November.
