Jagran correspondent, Kanpur. Rs 85,522 crore has been kept for urban planning in the budget. This has once again raised hopes for the development of the city. Cities can get relief from broken roads, collapsed drinking water, sewer and drainage systems.

There would hardly be any road left in the city which has not been dug up or uprooted. Metro has dug roads at many places for track construction, Jal Nigam for laying sewer and drinking water lines and Kesco for laying cables. Due to this it has become difficult for people to come out. A little rain becomes a problem for people. Apart from this, 40 percent areas of the city still do not have drinking water lines.

About five hundred billion rupees are required to make the old system operational. If this is found then the drinking water scheme worth Rs 869 crore which was lost due to corruption can be started. About Rs 22 billion is required to repair the sewer system. Apart from this, about Rs 1,000 crore is required to repair the drainage system. A survey is being conducted by the government for the drainage system.

Apart from this, money is needed to make six hundred and fifty parks green. The situation is such that about four hundred and fifty parks are lying in ruins. Only 50 parks are developed. The rest is semi-developed and occupied. Officials of Jalkal and Jal Nigam said that if funds are available for sewer and drinking water scheme then the system can be improved.
