Digital Desk, New Delhi. A big and proud moment is happening in Bengaluru. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's (HAL) advanced light helicopter Dhruv-New Generation (NG) successfully completed its maiden flight on Tuesday.

This is an important step towards giving new strength to the Udaan Dhruv platform in the civil and export markets. Dhruv NG is a 5.5 tonne, lightweight, twin-engine multi-role helicopter designed and manufactured by HAL.

It is based on the existing Dhruv platform, but with special focus on safety, performance, ease of flight and passenger comfort. Along with this, the capability to fly at high altitude and in hot weather required for Indian conditions has been maintained.

Equipped with powerful indigenous engine

Dhruv NG is powered by two Shakti 1H1C engines. These are completely indigenous. These engines provide more power and provide maintenance and support facilities in the country itself.

HAL says the use of Shakti engines strengthens self-reliance and reduces long-term expenses for civil operators.

This helicopter has a civil certified glass cockpit, which meets AS4 standards. It is fitted with modern avionics and navigation systems, which give the pilot better situational awareness and make his job easier.
