An important meeting of Congress was held in Shimla in the presence of Himachal Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajni Patil.

State Bureau, Shimla. Rajya Sabha elections are again ready to test Himachal Pradesh and Congress-BJP. The tenure of Rajya Sabha member Indu Goswami from BJP is going to be completed in April. Himachal Congress is worried about Rajya Sabha elections. The concern is who should be fielded now. Many national leaders of Congress are also keeping an eye on the vacant seat. At the same time, there is no dearth of leaders in Himachal too. According to sources, this issue was discussed in the meeting held in Delhi recently. Despite having majority in the year 2024, BJP snatched the Rajya Sabha seat from Congress due to cross voting. Then Harsh Mahajan from BJP had won the election. After this a political crisis also arose in the state.

Congress is avoiding repeating mistakes

Naturally, Congress will take vigorous steps to ensure that past mistakes are not repeated this time. Currently, Congress has 40 MLAs in Himachal, while the opposition BJP has 28. The new Rajya Sabha member will be elected based on their votes only. The opposition is keeping an eye on the internal factionalism of the Congress.

Rajni Patil's name also in discussion

Congress has senior leaders like former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Anand Sharma, former Lok Sabha member Pratibha Singh, Kaul Singh Thakur, Asha Kumari. Rajni Patil, in-charge of Congress state affairs, is also about to complete her Rajya Sabha tenure. That's why his name is discussed the most. Patil has become in-charge of Himachal Congress for the second time. He is close to the top leadership of the party and has personal acquaintance with all the leaders of the state.

Six Congress and three independent MLAs had left the party.

In the Rajya Sabha elections in the year 2024, instead of fielding a candidate from Himachal, Congress had fielded Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Due to the ongoing tussle in the Congress, six Congress MLAs had cross-voted. After this he also joined BJP, while three independents also voted in favor of BJP. In the result of draw after equal number of votes, BJP candidate had won.

It is too early to say now: Patil

When Congress state affairs in-charge Rajni Patil, who reached Shimla on a two-day visit, was asked a question about the Rajya Sabha elections, she avoided the question by saying that it was too early to say anything on it. There is still time for elections.
