Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation has taken concrete initiatives to curb the continuously increasing number of stray dogs in the city and the incidents happening due to them. Arrangements will be made for sterilization and treatment of stray dogs under the Animal Birth Control program. The corporation has issued a tender for agency selection. The tender process will be completed on January 2. The agency will carry out sterilization, vaccination and post-operative care of stray dogs in a scientific manner. According to information, there are more than five thousand stray dogs in 51 wards of the urban area. According to Municipal Corporation's Public Sanitation Officer Shashi Bhushan Singh, with the implementation of this scheme, the number of stray dogs in the city will be controlled and the incidents of dog bites are also expected to reduce. After sterilization, the dogs will be given complete care and after becoming healthy, they will be released in the area.

10 to 15 people become victims of dog bites every month in the district.

In India, 26,71,732 dog bite cases have been reported in the first seven months of this year. According to the Health Department, an average of 27,000 people have become victims of dog bites every month in Bihar in 2025. Talking about Bhagalpur district, 10 to 15 cases of dog bites reach Primary Health Center, Sadar Hospital and JLNMCH every month.

Corporation floats short term tender to control stray dogs

Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation has invited short term tender for selection of agency under Animal Birth Control (ABC) program to control the increasing number of stray dogs in the area. Under this scheme, sterilization and post-operative care of stray dogs will be done.

The Corporation has invited online tenders from interested and eligible agencies. The tender fee has been fixed at Rs 10,000, which will be non-refundable. The bail amount has been fixed at Rs 1 lakh. The last date for submission of online bids is December 29 and the date for opening of technical bids is January 1. The tender process will be completed on January 2.

A place for dog food will have to be selected in each ward. A dog pound will be built with it. In which a dog without disease will be kept. Anti-rabies vaccine is to be given. Detention center will be built in Nathnagar. The dog will also be sterilized here.

After vaccination, the dog will have to be left at the same place from where the agency will take it. City Manager Asghar Ali has been made the National Officer for dog control. The vehicle will have to be given to the agency. Rs 1650 will be paid by the Municipal Corporation for the care of one dog.
