Delhi government will provide door-to-door cancer screening facility.
Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Breast cancer cases have continuously increased in the national capital. While 3,198 cases were registered in the year 2023, this number increased to 3,321 in 2025. Breast cancer accounts for about 30 percent of the total cancer cases in women. Although cervical cancer cases are expected to reduce from 741 in 2023 to 692 in 2025, it still remains a major health challenge for women in Delhi.
Amidst the increasing threat of cancer, Delhi Government has taken a decisive step on World Cancer Day and launched Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Screening Program (CAPS) through Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI). In this, cancer screening will now move from hospitals to the localities.
Launching CAPS in a program organized at Delhi Secretariat, Health Minister of Delhi Government, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, timely detection of cancer, cervical cancer vaccination and screening network is being rapidly expanded in Delhi.
He said that due to better health facilities, a large number of patients come to Delhi from neighboring states, but the disease becomes fatal due to delayed diagnosis. Made it clear that cancer prevention and early detection is the top priority of the government. The goal is to stop the disease in time and provide accessible, free testing and treatment to every citizen.
Mobile van will change the picture of investigation
Director of Delhi State Cancer Institute, Dr. Vinod Kumar said that under the 'CAPS' program, state-of-the-art mobile cancer screening vans will be deployed in the localities, community centers and remote areas of the capital. Mammography and HPV DNA testing facilities will be available in these vans. Self-testing kits are also being provided to check cervical cancer, so that women can give their samples safely. The HPV DNA test will be done using RT-PCR technique and the report will be given within a week.
Complete strategy from prevention to treatment
Dr. Pragya Shukla, Head of the Department of Clinical Oncology, Delhi State Cancer Institute, said that under CAPS, cancer awareness, identification of early symptoms and cervical cancer vaccination will be promoted. Said that a holistic strategy based on cancer prevention, early detection and quality treatment will be worked out. In which there is special focus on breast and cervical cancer.
