Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Central Range Police has arrested 12 youths who were trying to scare people by openly displaying illegal weapons on social media. This action has been taken with the aim of preventing the youth from entering the initial ladder of crime and breaking the supply chain of illegal weapons. Of these, nine youths were arrested by the North District police and three by the Central District police.
A case has been registered against all of them under various sections of the Arms Act and they have been sent to Tihar Jail. Most of the arrested youths are in the age group of 18 to 25 years, who were posting their pictures and videos on social media with weapons like pistol, katta, knife, gun and sword. Investigation has revealed that all these weapons were acquired illegally.
According to Joint Commissioner Central Range Madhur Verma, the names of the youth arrested by the North District Police are Amit Singh, Gaurav Thapa, Vishal Gupta alias Hemant, Rohit, Sujal and arms suppliers Arun alias Pradhan, Abhishek and Mayank Rajput. A separate FIR has been registered against these three accused of supplying weapons.
The names of the youth arrested by the Central District Police are Yug, Tanish and Raj. In one case, the police have also arrested Manish alias Chaman, from whom two cartridges were recovered. It had supplied illegal weapons to all three.
Madhur Verma says that display of weapons on social media is the beginning of crime. Later, such youths become involved in firing, robbery, extortion or serious violent crimes. He says that the effort of Delhi Police is to stop such trend in the beginning itself. This campaign will continue further and strict action will be taken in such cases by monitoring social media platforms.
