Jagran correspondent, Meerut. On Friday, the driver of an e-rickshaw died after falling into the drain near Kath's bridge located in Abu drain of Sadar police station area. Driver Sunny was pulled out of the drain by the people nearby. After that the family admitted him to Dayanand Hospital. He died during treatment.
Accidents due to lack of boundary on the drain
Even before this, there have been two incidents of car falling in Abunale. Local people said that there is no boundary on the drain, hence such accidents happen every day. In the accident, the driver was buried under the e-rickshaw and drowned in dirty water.
The victim's family refused to do the post-mortem. It has been given in writing to the police that due to the seizure the e-rickshaw went out of control and overturned in the drain. However, the family says that the e-rickshaw slipped and overturned in the drain. If there had been a wall on the drain then perhaps the incident would not have happened.
Sunny, son of Gurdeep Singh, resident of Khatik Colony, Rajban, Sadar Bazar, used to drive an e-rickshaw. Sunny has a wife Jyoti and six year old son Chirag. Mother Daya and wife Jyoti told that 20 years ago, on the day of Vasant Panchami, Sunny fell from the roof while flying a kite, due to which he suffered a head injury. Because of this he sometimes had seizures. There were two brothers in the family. The third and youngest brother Jesus has died.
E-rickshaw went out of control on slope due to rain
After bad weather at around 5 pm on Friday evening, he got down from Begumpul and was returning to his home via the drain track. Beyond the wooden bridge, there is a steep slope on the road leading to Rajban. The e-rickshaw went out of control on the slope amid rain and bad weather. There was no safety wall on the banks of the drain, so the rickshaw overturned directly into the drain and Sunny got buried under it. It was fortunate that there was no passenger in the rickshaw.
The family refused to take action
CO Navina Shukla said that the family had refused to take any action. Due to this, the body was handed over to the family without post-mortem. He says that due to the seizure, the e-rickshaw went out of control and fell into the drain.
