After the recent snowfall in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, while on one hand the weather has made the city beautiful, on the other hand the danger of slipping on snow is continuously increasing. Due to accumulation of snow, the roads and footpaths are so slippery that even walking has become difficult for common people. For this reason, during the last 24 hours, 23 people got injured after slipping on ice and reached the hospital for treatment. Difficulty increasing on sloping roads

Doctors say that people are falling suddenly due to loss of balance due to slipping, causing serious injuries to hands, legs and waist. Roads in many parts of the city have become extremely dangerous after falling on ice. A thick layer of snow has accumulated along the main roads, sloping roads, stairs and streets. At many places the snow is melting and refreezing, causing glassy slippage. Due to this, not only the pedestrians but also the two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers are facing a lot of trouble.

Doctors have advised people to take special precautions. He says that while going out on icy roads, wear strong shoes, do not hurry and avoid sloping roads. The elderly and children especially need to avoid leaving the house.

...then accidents may increase further

The work of removing snow and adding sand and salt is being done in some areas by the Municipal Corporation and the administration, but in many parts of the city the roads are still not completely cleared. Local people say that if measures are not taken soon to reduce slippage, the number of accidents may increase further. The administration has appealed to the people not to go out unnecessarily and travel only when absolutely necessary. The situation is expected to become normal only after the weather clears and the snow melts completely. At present, slippage remains the biggest challenge for the people after snowfall in Shimla.
