Dharmesh Awasthi, Jagran Lucknow. On January 20, in the auditorium of the Public Works Department, Dr. Rohit Baluja, President of the Institute of Road Traffic Education, had said that road accidents have not stopped in UP because only the drivers are being made responsible.

Had asked, why other institutions including those distributing driving licenses, checking vehicles and road builders are not being brought to book? At that time, his words may have made the responsible road safety officers sitting in front uncomfortable, but now the statistics of road accidents for the year 2025 have confirmed them.

The Transport Department has released the data from January to December in the year 2025, in which the figure of 46052 accidents in the year 2024 has increased to 50769 in the year 2025, which is the highest number till date. Not only this, the number of dead in incidents has increased to 27205 and the number of injured has also increased to 38869, as compared to 2024, incidents have increased by 4717 (10.2 percent), deaths by 3087 (12.8 percent) and the number of injured has increased by 4204 (12.1 percent).

This situation happened when there were claims of reducing the incidents by 50 percent, special campaigns were run for road safety to stop false oaths, meetings of district and divisional road safety committees were also held. Actually, campaigns and meetings were held but the departments were not successful in connecting the common people.

Due to lack of effective action against those breaking road rules, the incidents kept on increasing like the increasing speed of vehicles. Former Additional Transport Commissioner Road Safety Pushpasen Satyarthi says that everyone will have to work together to stop incidents, they can be curbed only if effective action is taken along with planning. Most incidents in the capital itself

The highest number of road accidents in the state occurred in the capital, 1630 incidents in 2024 increased to 1714. Among these, the number of deaths increased from 576 to 660 and the number of injured increased from 1165 to 1206. This means that the model of reducing road accidents has been implemented in Lucknow itself. Kanpur city stood at the second place, although only 10 incidents increased there as compared to last year, Agra stood at the third place.
