Jagran correspondent, Ara. Notorious criminal Prince alias Abhijit, who was killed in a joint encounter with Bihar STF and Hajipur police in Vaishali district, was also involved in the famous Tanishq jewelery showroom robbery in Arrah.
The investigation has revealed that he had an active role in planning the robbery and in recovering the looted gold. Prince was absconding for about ten months after the Tanishq robbery.
In this case, till now a total of 23 accused including masterminds Sheru Singh and Chandan, who are lodged in West Bengal jail, have been arrested.
Two criminals related to the case have been killed in separate encounters. At present the matter is pending in the court (trial). It is said that another criminal Baba alias the seventh accused involved in this case is still absconding, who was directly involved in the robbery incident.
A joint team of Bhojpur Police and Bihar STF is continuously conducting raids to identify and arrest him. The Prince killed in the encounter was a resident of Garaul police station area of Vaishali district.
Jewelery worth Rs 10 crores was looted
It is noteworthy that on March 10, 2025, seven criminals, who came on two different bikes, raided the Tanishq showroom located at Sheesh Mahal Chowk under the Town police station area of Arrah city in broad daylight and looted jewelery worth about Rs 10.5 crore. During the robbery, the criminals escaped with a total of three bags of jewellery.
After the incident, on the instructions of the then SP Raj, the police team had given orders to chase the fleeing criminals and take action of shootout if necessary.
In the same sequence, criminals had an encounter with the police near Babura of Badhara police station area, in which two robbers of Saran district, Vishal Gupta and Kunal were injured by bullets.
Two country-made pistols, ten cartridges and two bags full of looted jewelery were recovered from them. The bike used in the incident was also confiscated.
The police had already recovered two of the three looted bags, while the third bag full of gold was recovered from Hajipur, in which Prince's involvement came to light.
The conspiracy was hatched from Purulia jail in West Bengal.
In this case, on June 11, 2025, the police had submitted a charge sheet in the court against a total of 20 criminals including mastermind notorious Sheru Singh and Chandan of Vaishali, Prince Rajput, Abhimanyu alias Pagla, Himanshu, Suraj Mandal, Gaurav, Amit and Nitin.
Among them, Sheru Singh was lodged in Purulia jail of West Bengal, while Chandan had hatched the conspiracy while staying outside. On July 19, 19 accused in this case were presented in the court.
Of these, 17 accused were presented physically in the court, while the production of Sheru and Chandan was conducted through video conferencing.
During the investigation, the police not only arrested the criminals involved in the robbery, but also sent the liner and the protection people behind the bars. Many criminals involved in this incident were residents of Vaishali district.
Till now two criminals related to the case have been killed in the encounter.
Two criminals involved in the Tanishq gold robbery case have so far been killed in a police encounter. Firstly, on 22 March 2025, Chunmun Jha of Araria district was killed in an encounter in Narpatganj police station area. Five policemen were injured in this encounter. Meanwhile, Prince alias Abhijit was killed in an encounter that took place in Hanuman Nagar Colony of Hajipur Sadar police station area on Friday.
Police say that efforts are being made to bring the case to its logical conclusion and give strict punishment to all the main culprits.
Prince met Sheru-Chandan in Bengal after absconding
Police claim that after escaping from Patna police custody, Prince alias Abhijit had met Sheru Singh of Buxar and Chandan of Vaishali, lodged in Purulia jail of West Bengal, in the court there.
According to the police, after escaping from custody, through the network of Prince, apart from the Tanishq showroom of Arrah, incidents of robbery also took place in the gold showroom of Danapur, Patna. In September 2024, Prince Kumar was brought to PMCH for treatment along with other prisoners from Beur jail, where he had escaped by dodging the police.
After this, on January 31, 2025, jewelery worth about Rs 40 lakh was looted at Jeeva Jewelers located at Saguna Mod in Danapur.

March 10, 2025: Loot of Rs 10.5 crore in Tanishq showroom of Arrah, on the same day two criminals were injured and caught in an encounter.
22 March 2025: Chunmun Jha was killed during an encounter in Araria.
June 11, 2025: Chargesheet filed against 20 accused including Sheru Singh and Chandan.
19 July 2025: 19 accused appear in court, trial process begins.
The trial process has started in the Tanishq robbery case. Under the speedy trial, evidence and testimony of the prosecution is being continuously presented in the court.
