Jagran correspondent, Dhanbad. A fire broke out in a garbage warehouse located in New Bank Kolani of Saraidhela police station area on Saturday. The fire was so terrible that people were evacuated from nearby houses. After about five hours of hard work the fire could somehow be controlled. However, there was no casualty in this incident.

Fire brigade could not reach

Two brothers named Suraj Kumar and Manoj Kumar operate a garbage warehouse in New Bank Colony. There is a six feet high boundary wall all around the godown. Many types of garbage including plastic were kept inside. At around 10 in the morning, suddenly flames started rising from the garbage warehouse. People nearby immediately informed Saraidhela police station and fire brigade.

Police arrived on information and evacuated the nearby residences. People were kept out of their homes. The big fire fighting vehicle could not reach the spot, while only small vehicles could go inside, but the fire was so terrible that small fire engines did not prove to be effective.

Subhash Chandra of the fire department said that due to the narrow road, big fire vehicles could not reach the incident site. Whereas small vehicles do not have enough pressure to control a big fire. Later, big fire vehicles were parked on the main road, long pipes were connected and the fire was brought under control.

Garbage warehouse in the middle of dense population

The garbage warehouse is located amidst dense population in New Bank Colony, Saraidhela. There are two and three storey houses just eight to 10 feet away from the fire site. This area is quite dense. According to the people nearby, the garbage warehouse is already in operation, while the residential area is newly settled.
