Reuters, Arizona. A man has been seriously injured and is in critical condition in a shooting involving a U.S. Border Patrol agent. The incident occurred Tuesday morning in the Arivaca area of ​​Pima County, located about 10 miles (16 km) north of the US-Mexico border.

The shooting happened about 7:30 a.m. near milepost 15 of West Arivaca Road, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said. The Santa Rita Fire District transported the injured man by helicopter to a regional trauma center. The injured person is now in custody and is undergoing treatment.

According to Sheriff Chris Nanos, the FBI has taken over the investigation and is investigating an "alleged assault on a federal officer." The Pima County Sheriff's Department is coordinating with the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
