For the first time, knee transplant was done with the help of robot in AIIMS.

Jagran correspondent, Rae Bareli. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is setting new records along with providing better facilities. For the first time, knee transplant was successfully done with the help of robot in AIIMS. This complex operation was performed by the orthopedics department of the institute.

Two patients benefited from this robot-assisted surgery. Dr. Gaurav Kumar Upadhyay, Head of the Department of Orthopedics, said that knee replacement with robotic assistance is more accurate than the traditional technique.

In this technique, a pre-planned surgical plan is made according to the structure of the patient's knee, due to which bone cutting, implant positioning and ligament balancing are done with utmost precision during the surgery.

The surgeon remains in control throughout the procedure and the robot provides assistance. Executive Director Prof. Amita Jain said that TKR is a life-changing treatment for patients suffering from long-term knee pain and arthritis.

With the introduction of robotic knee replacement at AIIMS, patients in the surrounding area will now be able to get world class orthopedic treatment in their own area. He congratulated the department for the successful surgery.

On the first day, the surgery was led by Dr. Gaurav Kumar Upadhyay, Head of the Department and along with him were Dr. Mithilesh Ranjan and Dr. Rajat Yadav. The surgery on the second day was done by Dr. Pulkesh Singh and Dr. Sanjay Singh was involved with him.

The anesthesia team had an important contribution in the success of the surgery, in which the heads of the department were Dr. Aleem, Dr. Kalicharan, Dr. Abhay Yadav, Dr. Vijay Adabala and Dr. Vinay Pathak. Nursing staff Mr. Shubham Garg, Shubham Sharma and technician Sahil and others were included.
