Theft in the Presidential Palace of France.
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Three men will go on trial next year over the suspected theft of silverware and expensive tableware from the official residence of the French president. This information was given by the Paris Prosecutor's Office.
The value of the missing items is estimated to be between 15,000 and 40,000 euros ($17,500–46,800), which was first reported by the head steward of the Elysee Palace.
What things were stolen?
The items stolen included Sevres porcelain, Baccarat champagne glasses, copper saucepans and a statue by René Lalique, which were used during state banquets and official functions. The investigation traced the theft to a silver steward at the palace, Thomas M., after staff noticed irregularities in inventory records, Reuters reports.
Prosecutors said about 100 items were recovered from his personal locker, car and home. Some of the items recovered were those identified by Saver Manufacturing on online auction websites.
Thomas M and his partner Damien G were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of theft, while another man, Ghislain M, was arrested on suspicion of purchasing stolen goods.
