Tulip festival begins in Delhi.

Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. More than three lakh tulips have bloomed on the streets of Lutyens' Delhi. On Monday, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairman Keshav Chandra, Vice Chairman Kuljeet Chahal and Ambassador of the Netherlands Marisa Gerrards jointly inaugurated the tulip exhibition held at Shanti Path Lawn along the roads of Lutyens' Delhi. On this occasion, NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra said that an exhibition based on the history of the monuments located around Shanti Path has been displayed amidst the blooming tulips on Shanti Path.
He said that for the second time, NDMC has made pots of one lakh tulip bulbs available for sale to the general public. These pots are available for sale at Shanti Path Lawn, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden, Central Park and NDMC nurseries (Safdarjung Madrasa, Gurudwara Park, Purana Qila Marg etc.). NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Chahal said that after receiving immense appreciation from the general public in the last three years, the fourth edition of Tulip Utsav has been started. Which is welcoming the spring season through grand floral decoration in New Delhi. He informed that NDMC had started planting of tulip bulbs on a trial basis in the year 2017–18 to assess the suitability of the weather. This initiative, which started with just 17 thousand bulbs, has now become a major annual event. He said that this year 5,17,500 tulip bulbs were procured, out of which 3,25,000 bulbs were for NDMC and 1,92,500 bulbs were for Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
NDMC has installed around 2,25,000 bulbs at key locations including Shanti Path, Central Park (Connaught Place), Convention Centre, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Sardar Patel Marg, Mandi House, Windsor Place, Shershah Suri Marg and Gol Chakkar near Upa Rashtrapati Bhavan. Additionally, around 1,00,000 tulip bulbs were planted in pots and have also been made available for purchase by the general public, he said.
NDMC had also planted 15,000 bulbs preserved at the Tulip House Conservation Center at Lodhi Garden and 20,700 bulbs received from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - Himalayan Bioresource Technology Research Center at Palampur. For the second year, NDMC has prepared one lakh potted tulip plants for public sale.
