Jagran correspondent, Nainital. The High Court heard a PIL filed against the hotmix plant of bitumen near Shitala River New Bridge in violation of the rules of the State Pollution Control Board in Bartoli village of Vikas Nagar, Dehradun.

The division bench of Chief Justice Justice G Narendra and Justice Subhash Upadhyay has issued a notice to AA Construction banning the operation of the Hotmix plant and asked the State Government along with the State Pollution Control Board to submit a progress report. The next hearing of the case has been fixed for January 7. During the hearing, PCB said that the Hotmix plant was running contrary to the rules. It does not meet the standards. The board is issuing a show cause notice to the operating company this week.

Pradeep Kumar of Dehradun Vikas Nagar has filed a PIL saying that Shila river flows near his village. A bitumen hotmix plant has been set up near it. Whose distance from the village is only 200 meters. The climate of the village has become polluted due to the construction of the plant. This is adversely affecting farming including the elderly and children. The environment is also getting polluted. When passing through this area, passers-by are facing difficulty in breathing, therefore, keeping in view the public interest, the operation of the plant should be banned.
