More than 376 heart patients reached the District Civil Hospital.

Jagran correspondent, Gurugram. Falling mercury and pollution together are increasing the heartbeat. Recently the minimum temperature was recorded at four degrees. This is the reason why the number of heart patients in government and private hospitals has increased in the last eight days. More than 376 heart patients reached the District Civil Hospital.

Cardiologist Dr. Sanjay Chugh said that ignoring complaints like prickling in the chest can prove fatal. He has advised to take any such symptoms seriously and immediately consult a doctor. Eight new patients with heart related problems arrived in the emergency of the Heart Health Center of District Civil Hospital, Sector-10, till 2 pm on Sunday, a holiday. Among these patients, six were men and two were women. A total of 376 patients arrived here in the last seven days. Of these, angioplasty had to be done to save the lives of 25 heart patients. In this, 12 heart patients were brought in a serious state of attack while 13 patients were brought with the problem of serious blockage due to narrowing of the tubes.

During this period, an average of 50 patients came every day with chest pain and needle prick related problems. On an average, about four to five cases of heart attack are being reported here every day whereas on normal days this number used to be around 15 to 20. If OPDs of other private hospitals including Artemis are added, this number will increase manifold.

Due to falling mercury and pollution, cases of chest pain, heart attack and cardiac arrest are increasing rapidly. There is also a higher risk of flu infection during this season, which puts pressure on the heart. Light exercise and warm-up at home also helps the body fight cold. Excessive smoking or alcohol consumption also increases the risk. Drinking relatively less water in cold is harmful for the heart. It is important to drink adequate amount of water in this season. Also keep in mind that the water should be lukewarm. - Dr. Surendra Nath Khanna, Chairperson, Adult Cardiac Surgery and Heart-Lung Transplant, Artemis Hospitals
