According to Hindu calendar, Phalgun Purnima Tithi will start on March 02 at 05:55 pm. At the same time, it will end on March 03 at 05:07 pm. Keeping in view the calendar, Holika Dahan will be performed on 03 March and Holi will be celebrated on the next day i.e. 04 March.

According to the legend, Holika, sister of the demon Hiranyakashipu, was blessed with the boon of not burning in fire. She sat in the fire with her own nephew Shri Hari Bhakta Prahlad in her lap, but by the grace of Lord Vishnu Prahlad was saved and Holika was burnt to ashes. This festival symbolizes the victory of good over evil. On this day people worship Holika and offer cow dung cakes, wheat ears and gram in the fire of Holika Dahan. Also, by circling the fire, they pray for the happiness, prosperity of their family and freedom from diseases.
