Anuj Saini, Jagran, Shamli. An identity crisis has arisen in SIR for a family from Kandhla who left Islam and became Hindu. Eight members of this family, including the head, who were registered in the voter list with Muslim names, have adopted Hindu names, but now special intensive voter verification has blocked their path. The administration has now issued a notice asking for solid documentary evidence of Hindu religion, whereas their previous names are recorded in the old records.

The hearing of the notice issued to 55 thousand 424 voters who were not mapped in the Special Intensive Voter Revision Campaign (SIR) in the district is going on. The family of Sanju, resident of Raizadgan, Kandhla, is facing an identity crisis. Sanju's son Vikas Kumar told that before 2003, his family was Hindu. Due to some reasons, he adopted Muslim religion after this.

After conversion, Vikas was named Rashid, his father Sanju was named Umar, mother Neeta was named Imrana, brothers Deepak and Sandeep were named Ashraf and Adil. The family again returned to the original Hindu religion in August 2021. Everyone's previous names were kept, names were amended in the Aadhar card, but only Muslim names remained in the voter list.

Had applied in SIR and appealed for votes with new Hindu names, but their votes are not being cast. Notices have been sent due to mismatch in voter list and documents.

Time for hearing of notice fixed till 10th February

The hearing of the notice is scheduled for February 10. SDM Sadar Archana Sharma has clarified that action will be taken as per the guidelines and rules of the state elections after showing the evidence. Vikas says that only Dada Amichand's name is registered in the voter list of 2003. Proof is being asked from us because our name is Muslim in the current voter list and grandfather's name was Hindu in 2003. We have no proof except grandfather's name.

The entire matter will be shown seriously. No one will be allowed to be deprived of vote. Whatever evidence the family has, provide it to the SDM. The problem will be resolved after investigation.
