Delhi Police SWAT commando Kajal Chaudhary was four months pregnant at the time of her murder. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Kajal Chaudhary, a SWAT commando posted in the Delhi Police Special Cell, was four months pregnant at the time of her murder. During the attack with the dumbbell, Kajal's husband Ankur, during a phone conversation, asked his brother Nikhil to record the call, saying, "Record this call, I am killing him."
A brother who was forced to helplessly listen to his sister's screams – these were the final harrowing moments of the 27-year-old Delhi Police SWAT commando, who later died after being brutally attacked at his home in Delhi.
Nikhil says that Ankur asked him to put the call on recording so that the police could use it as evidence, and then he heard her screams. Nikhil's voice was trembling as he recalled the horrific incident of January 22, when Kajal's husband had crushed her head with a heavy dumbbell.
Kajal was at her home in Mohan Garden at the time of the attack. Her husband Ankur is a clerk in the Defense Ministry and was posted in Delhi Cantt. He was arrested on the day of the incident itself. After fighting for his life for five days, he died in a hospital in Ghaziabad on the morning of 27 January.
Nikhil, posted at Sansad Marg police station, told that on January 22, Ankur called him and asked to talk to Kajal. She asked him to remain calm and immediately called his sister. Kajal usually did not tell her much about what was happening, but that day she was narrating her ordeal.
Nikhil says that while he was talking, Ankur got angry and snatched the phone from Kajal. Then he told me to record this call, it will be used as police evidence. "I'm killing your sister. The police won't be able to do anything to me."
I heard her screams. The call got disconnected suddenly. Five minutes later, Nikhil's phone rang again. He said, "She is dead, come to the hospital." After that, when I reached there with the police, he and his family were already there. When I saw my sister... not even an enemy would treat anyone like this. Kajal's head was badly crushed, and there were many injuries all over her body.
Nikhil told that he first tried to get him admitted to several hospitals in Delhi, but when he was told that his chances of survival were slim, he was finally admitted to a hospital in Ghaziabad, where he died.
Nikhil accused Ankur and his relatives of long-term torture and harassment for dowry. Kajal has a one and a half year old son, who is currently with his maternal grandparents. Nikhil told that about five months ago, Kajal's husband had slapped her. I went there and asked him to come with me.
Ankur apologized and swore to his child that he would not do it again. I told my sister that she could come home whenever she wanted and she didn't need to stay there. But she did not come home. Even during pregnancy, Kajal used to get the household chores done after returning from work.
