State Bureau, Lucknow. The state government has decided to maintain the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida) as it is. In the cabinet meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the proposal to make Noida a Metropolitan Corporation under the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Area Development Act-1976 was not approved.
In this context, regarding the order passed by the Supreme Court, the Industrial Development Department had given the opinion to the government that Noida was established under the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Area Development Act to ensure industrial development of the state. The objective of its establishment is to promote industrial, residential and commercial development in an organized manner.
Noida is a major center for foreign investment. Therefore, formation of a metropolitan corporation will have an adverse impact on investment in the state. The Justice Department has given the opinion that as per the rules, Metropolitan Corporation cannot be established in Noida. Apart from this, the Cabinet has approved the proposal to keep Noida as it is after taking the opinion of Finance Department, Urban Development, Revenue Department, Housing and Urban Planning and Planning Department.
On November 22, 2023, during the hearing of a petition, the Supreme Court had ordered an SIT investigation into the corruption in Noida Authority. A three-member SIT had investigated 12 cases of corruption in Noida, in which a case of payment of Rs 89.31 crore to farmers for land acquisition against the rules came to light.
Besides, in the investigation of 20 other cases, wrongful payment of Rs 117.56 crore was revealed. In this regard, the SIT had suggested the formation of Metropolitan Corporation in Noida. On this basis, the Supreme Court had passed the order on 13 August 2025 considering the formation of Noida Metropolitan Corporation.
