It was Vikas who had introduced one of the main accused, Amit Tata and retired constable Alok Singh, to Shubham Jaiswal, so that the network of cough syrup smuggling could be spread to foreign countries.

Amit Tata and Alok have already been arrested. Sonbhadra police had caught two containers filled with cough syrup vials on October 18 last year.

Investigation of the case revealed that cough syrup was being sent from Ghaziabad to Ranchi, Jharkhand. Investigation revealed that the network of cough syrup smuggling extended not only to Uttar Pradesh but also to Bihar, Jharkhand, Bengal, Bangladesh and Nepal. As soon as his name came up in the case, Shubham fled to Dubai with his family.

Shubham, Divesh and Amit are still out of the reach of the police. DCP Gaurav Banswal, head of the SIT team, said that Vikas Singh was the operator of Devnath Pharmacy. He did illegal business worth about Rs 15 crore by purchasing 5.13 lakh vials of cough syrup containing codeine from the Ranchi-based firm Shaili Traders of Shubham's father Bhola Prasad Jaiswal.

His role was to manage the black money earned from the entire network. During investigation, police also found evidence of Vikas going to Dubai several times.

For Akash Pathak's fake pharmaceutical company, kingpin Shubham Jaiswal had issued a competency certificate with his signature, on the basis of which the license was obtained. Shubham Jaiswal also held the post of director in Akash's company.
