Jagran correspondent, Meerut. A woman, frustrated over the breakup of her relationship after her daughter's engagement, set herself on fire on Monday. The woman suffered 70 percent burns due to the fire. Doctors have referred the woman to Delhi as her condition is serious.
Zahid, a resident of Chaupal of Rangado in the Kotwali police station area, told that a few days ago he had tied his daughter's relationship with a young man resident of Saharanpur. They had spent seven lakh rupees on the engagement. After some time the young man broke the relationship. After the break up of the relationship, when she asked for the return of the money spent on the engagement, he became reluctant.
Complained about the matter in Kotwali police station. In the presence of the police, an agreement was reached between the two parties and the youth's side promised to return the amount spent on the engagement. After this, the victim repeatedly asked for his money, but the youth did not return it.
Frustrated over the breakdown of her daughter's relationship and not getting back the money spent on the engagement, Zahid's wife Shehnaz poured petrol on herself and set herself on fire on Monday evening. The burnt woman was admitted to LLR Medical College Hospital. The doctors referred him to Delhi.

Kotwali police reached the spot and took information about the matter. Police station in-charge Jitendra Singh says that information was received that the woman had set herself on fire. On receiving the complaint, further action will be taken.
In-laws took away the newborn from the woman from the hospital
A woman resident of a colony of Lisadi Gate of the city told that she was married on 20 August 24. In-laws started harassing her regarding dowry. On 13 April 25, brother-in-law and husband's friend Danish tried to rape her.

When she raised an alarm, her husband beat her. On the pretext of treatment, the husband gave her triple talaq in the street near her parents' house and ran away. She gave birth to a son in the hospital on 4th December 25th. The husband and other in-laws came to the hospital and forcibly took away the newborn. On the orders of SSP, Lisadi Gate police station was ordered to file a report.
