India is increasing its power in the world: Foreign Minister
Addressing the inaugural session of 'Global Economic Cooperation (GEC) Summit 2026' held in Mumbai on Tuesday, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar made it clear that India has now emerged as a decisive power and not just a silent spectator on the global stage.
Amidst global uncertainties and geopolitical turmoil, India has once again made the world realize its growing economic and diplomatic power.
Speaking in his usual outspoken style, the External Affairs Minister described the current global situation as a 'twilight zone' (a period where the old order is collapsing and the new one has not yet been fully formed).
He said that we are probably going through the most turbulent period of our lifetime. According to the External Affairs Minister, global politics and economics are no longer separate from each other.
India emerged as a decisive power on the global stage
Today, business decisions are being dominated by security concerns and political strategies. He warned that production, finance and even data were being 'weaponised' across the world, increasing the challenges for developing countries.
In the conference, Jaishankar mentioned India's recent diplomatic victory and told how under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is bargaining like a powerful country. He cited the example of the recent India-US trade talks, which have resulted in huge cuts in US tariffs on Indian exports.
He said that it is a proof of India's economic credibility that we are not only becoming a part of the global supply chain, but are also giving it a new direction. Jaishankar stressed that ‘de-risking’ (reducing risk) is the need of the hour.

India is now emerging as a 'trusted partner' for the world. He said India's domestic policies, such as the 'Production Linked Incentive' (PLI) scheme and digital infrastructure, remain a center of attraction for global investors.
In the presence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he praised Maharashtra's contribution in this sector and said that economic centers like Mumbai are becoming the engines of India's dream of five trillion dollar economy.
This three-day summit (17-19 February) has been organized under the joint auspices of the Future Economic Cooperation Council (FECC) and the Ministry of External Affairs.
Representatives from more than 50 countries are participating in it. At the conference, the External Affairs Minister conveyed that India is ready to lead global development in the coming decades.
He called upon the global community to become partners in India's development journey, as India's rise is essential not only for Indians but for the stability of the entire world.
