Digital Desk, New Delhi. The border between India and Nepal will be closed from midnight of 2nd March. This decision has been taken in view of the elections going to be held in Nepal from March 5. Nepal's Home Ministry has issued an official message in this regard on 26 February.
Sudhir Sharma, in-charge of Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Rupaidiha, Bahraich, gave this information to news agency PTI. The border of both the countries will remain closed till midnight of March 5.

The official letter said that all border outposts in the entire part of Banke district, the district adjoining India, will remain closed from 12 midnight of March 2 and 3 to March 5, so that elections can be held in Nepal in a free, fair, fear-free and trustworthy environment.
He said that during this period, import and export of goods through ICP will also remain closed. However, medicines and other essential items will be exempted from this. Ganga Singh Udawat, Commandant of 42nd Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal, said that instructions have been issued to implement restricted movement on the border till the night of voting.
Ganga Singh said that vigilance is already being maintained on the border. The border is being allowed to cross only after complete checking and verification. He said that Nepali voters live in India for job and business purposes. Such voters as well as seriously ill patients and essential goods can be allowed to cross the border under the supervision of security forces.
