Digital Desk, New Delhi. The news of the disappearance of a 22-year-old Indian student who had gone to study in America has come to light. The student, Saket Srinivasaiah, was from Karnataka and was pursuing post-graduation from Berkeley University. The Indian Embassy in San Francisco has expressed deep concern over the disappearance of the student.
"The Consulate General of India in San Francisco is deeply concerned about the disappearance of Saketh Srinivasaiah, an Indian post-graduate student at UC Berkeley, resident of the state of Karnataka. The Consulate General is in touch with the family and is also in touch with the relevant local authorities to locate the student," the Consulate General, concerned about the student's disappearance, wrote in a post on X.
Such incidents have happened before also
However, this is not the first such incident. Indian students abroad often complain of discrimination, racist attacks and negligence by authorities. In a question raised by Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi about student safety abroad, the Ministry of External Affairs stressed its efforts to keep Indian students safe.
In response to Owaisi's question, the MEA wrote, "The government gives utmost priority to the safety of Indian students abroad and keeps a close watch on incidents of violence against them. Violent and malicious incidents against them are immediately taken up by Indian missions/posts abroad with the relevant authorities of the host country to ensure that they are properly investigated and the culprits are brought to justice."
Roommate had informed about his disappearance
Srinivasaiah's roommate Banet Singh posted on LinkedIn asking for help in locating him after he went missing. Banet Singh wrote in a post on LinkedIn, "Hello everyone, my roommate Saket Srinivasiah has been missing since Monday, February 9. He was last seen near Lake Anza in the Berkeley Hills. If anyone I know knows people in the area who have seen him recently, please let me know.
I am trying my best to find him along with the police department. This is a very difficult time for us. Please provide any information that may help." (With inputs from news agency ANI)
