The condition of the people of Gandhinagar, located in the center of the city, with a population of about seven thousand, is bad. Concept Photo
Govind Bisht, Jagran, Haldwani: When Indore incident raised questions on the quality of drinking water, it started making headlines across the country. But the condition of Gandhinagar of Haldwani, which is called the gateway to Kumaon, is also not good. Here, when the taps are opened, the dirt directly reaches inside the house. When innocent children fell ill due to contaminated water, people became afraid of drinking water without boiling it. Many started buying bottled water from the market. But the financial condition of many people is not even capable of this. Therefore, collecting drinking water from the nearest tube well has become a compulsion for them. Clean water is the right of common people. But there is no 'reduction' in this right. To know this, the Jagran team reached Gandhinagar area located in the center of the city on Sunday afternoon. While passing through small streets, when I started asking people about the quality of water, I heard from everyone that dirty water was coming. After this, after talking to the women present outside and inside the houses, it was found that water comes twice in the morning and evening but there is no 'clean water'.
The women said that they have been facing the problem of dirty water for about two months. A woman named Vimala told that the health of the family's 14-month-old daughter Radhika has deteriorated due to dirty water. Based on the doctor's advice, only bottled or boiled water is now given to drink.
Bhagwati Devi also had the same pain. Whose grandson is also ill. At the same time, Nirmala, who lives at some distance, told that there is a tube well in Indiranagar. From where family members are bringing drinks. After moving a little further, some elderly women were seen busy in mutual discussion.
When asked, he clearly said that the water of Gandhinagar is fit for drinking only after boiling the water mixed with alum and salt in the stove. You will fall ill if you are careless. Now it remains to be seen when will the administration and Jal Sansthan officials reach here from their offices located just half a kilometer away from the homes of these troubled people?
The water coming from taps is not fit for drinking at all. Have been facing this problem for about two months. Vimala Devi is facing the problem of dirty water after Diwali. The situation is the same both in the morning and evening. Even after that there is no hearing. The sad situation is that we have to buy bottled water from shops for drinking. Clean water is a right. Arrangements should be made. Dirty water starts coming as soon as the Pradyumna canal is opened. Using it for washing clothes and other things. But it is not fit for drinking. Kanchan Devi: Everyone is troubled by the problem of dirty water in this area with a large population. The problem should be resolved by checking the line. Sanjay There is a fear of falling ill by drinking the water of Sonkarnal. Therefore, they are managing somehow by bringing water from the tube well for drinking. It is not possible for everyone to buy bottled water from Nirmala Bazaar. Therefore, after filling water from the tap, it is used only after boiling. The team of Jal Sansthan came here after Bhagwati's complaint. Upon checking, no drinking water line was found broken. But the water is still coming out bad. Rohit Kumar, Councilor, No complaint related to dirty water was received from Gandhinagar area. Now the matter has come to notice. Jal Sansthan team will be sent to the spot. A line emerging from the dirt inside the drain
After knowing the condition of the streets of Gandhinagar, on reaching the main road, the main water line was visible. Which was passing through an underground drain. The drain was full of dirt and the pipe was full of gutkha. If ever the line leaks in this part, dirty water will reach inside the houses.
