Digital Desk, New Delhi. Violence has increased in the ongoing protests against the Iranian government in Tehran. Seeing the protests turning violent, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered firing on the protesters. It is being claimed that 217 protesters were killed in this firing.
In fact, a local doctor, on condition of anonymity, told Time magazine that at least 217 deaths of protesters have been recorded in only six hospitals of the capital. Most of them died due to bullet injuries.
Regarding the deaths of protesters, a local doctor said most of the dead were youth, including several killed when security forces indiscriminately fired machine guns at protesters outside a police station in northern Tehran. All of them died on the spot.
Meanwhile, the Washington DC-based Human Rights Activist News Agency, which counts only identified victims, has confirmed at least 63 deaths since the beginning of the protests.
If the death toll is confirmed, it would highlight the fear that has been caused by the almost complete shutdown of internet and phone connections across the country since Thursday night. This will also be a challenge for US President Trump, because he had already warned that if the government kills the protesters who have been taking to the streets since December 28, then it will have to bear the heavy consequences.
Trump has also warned
Here, US President Donald Trump openly warned Iran, saying, 'If Iran opens fire and kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom. So America will come to save them. We are ready.
Why are protests taking place in Iran?
It is worth noting that in Iran the public is angry against inflation, falling currency and economic distress and demonstrations are going on. These demonstrations have spread to almost all 31 provinces of Iran. Trump's threat amid the demonstration has made the situation more tense. Here Iran has also shown signs of strictness.
If you get shot, don't complain...
Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei launched a scathing attack on Trump and said that the Islamic Republic will not bow down to the miscreants who try to 'please' Trump. Meanwhile, the Iranian government announced that protesters could face the death penalty. On state television, an Islamic Revolutionary Guard official warned parents to keep their children away from the demonstrations, saying, 'If... you get shot, don't complain.'
