Sweating from the body after workout is a normal process, but if bathing is delayed for a long time then it can be harmful for the skin. Sweat contains salt, toxins, and bacteria, which can build up on the skin's surface and block pores. Due to this, the skin is not able to breathe properly and problems like irritation, itching and rashes can start, especially in those with sensitive skin.
Delaying bathing gives bacteria and fungus a chance to grow. The body remains warm and moist after a workout, which creates an ideal environment for bacterial and fungal infections. Due to this, problems like back acne, fungal infection, jock itch and itching in skin folds can increase. In people who already have the problem of pimples or acne, this condition may worsen.
Just drying the sweat won't help
After the sweat dries, a layer of salt accumulates on the skin, due to which the skin can feel dry and rough. This layer also damages the natural oils of the skin, due to which the skin barrier becomes weak. Taking bath with lukewarm water immediately or within 20–30 minutes after workout is considered better for the skin. This removes sweat, dirt and bacteria and makes the skin feel fresh. Mild cleanser should be used while bathing and it is important to apply moisturizer afterwards, so that the skin remains moisturized and any kind of irritation or infection can be prevented.
