Digital Desk, New Delhi. Pakistan has expressed strong opposition to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to form 'Hexagon of Alliances' i.e. an alliance of 6 countries with many countries including India. Pakistan has called it a 'block against the Muslim Ummah'.

Pakistan's Senate unanimously passed a resolution on this issue, condemning Netanyahu's plan. 'Umma' is an Arabic word, which means 'community' or 'nation'.

This proposal was presented by Pakistan People's Party (PPP) MP Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan on behalf of all political parties. PPP is part of the coalition government led by Shehbaz Sharif.

Objection on Palestine and other issues also

The Senate resolution said any attempt to change the legal or historical status of the occupied Palestinian territories and holy sites would be opposed. According to the report, the Senate said that such statements are against regional stability and international law. The resolution described Netanyahu's remarks as 'an attempt to weaken the unity and integrity of the Muslim Ummah'.

Furthermore, the Senate also rejected reports of Israel recognizing Somaliland as an independent country. In December Israel formally recognized Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state, which was objected to by many Muslim countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

What is Netanyahu's 'Hexagon Alliance' plan?

Ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tel Aviv, Netanyahu had said that Israel would form 'a kind of six-nation alliance' in the Middle East. He said that India, Greece, Greek Cypriot administration and some other Arab, African and Asian countries can join this alliance.

According to Netanyahu, the purpose of this alliance is to bring together countries that see challenges and goals in a similar manner. He described this as an attempt to create a balance against the 'radical Shia axis' and the 'emerging radical Sunni axis'.

Netanyahu said the Shia axis is led by Iran, including organizations such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, while the emerging Sunni axis is linked to remnants of ISIS.
