Digital Desk, New Delhi. Controversy has arisen over the statement of a leader of the ruling CPM after the municipal elections in Malappuram district of Kerala. Party leader Syed Ali Majeed made objectionable and lewd comments about women during the victory celebration, which is now being severely criticized.
CPM leader Syed Ali Majeed had won the municipal elections held last week by 47 votes. To celebrate this victory, he addressed a program on Sunday night. During this, he accused Muslim League of using women for votes. "He showed up to win the votes of women," Majeed said. He said this in front of hundreds of party workers, including women.
CPM also commented on women
Majeed did not stop here. He also made objectionable statements about the women of his own party. "We also have married women in our homes, but not to show them up to vote. They should stay at home," he said. He also said that this is why families check their lineage and background before marriage.
Shock for LDF in election results
Amidst these statements, the results of the municipal elections are being seen as a blow to the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF). The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) won four out of six municipal corporations. Maintained control of Kannur and wrested corporations like Kochi and Kollam from LDF.
BJP alliance wins in Thiruvananthapuram
The situation worsened for the LDF when the BJP-led NDA captured the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, the state capital. This area has been considered a stronghold of leftism for a long time. Earlier, CPM had 51 seats in the 100-member corporation. Now in the new corporation of 101 seats, NDA got 50 seats, LDF got 29 seats, UDF got 19 seats, while 2 seats went to independents.
