Digital Desk, New Delhi. Jeffrey Epstein's files are once again in the headlines. The US Justice Department on Friday (January 30) released a new set of documents related to the sex offender. This new set of files has revealed some names that were not previously known and were linked to convicted sex offenders.
It is noteworthy that none of the people named in the documents have been formally accused of wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.
What are the Epstein files?
Actually, the Epstein Files are government documents related to America's notorious sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, which are related to his sexual trafficking and exploitation cases. The US Justice Department has made these public under the Transparency Act.
In total, more than 30 lakh pages related to these files have been released. These include more than 2 thousand videos and about 1 lakh 80 thousand photos. However, many parts are still hidden for the safety of the victims.
Who was Jeffrey Epstein?
Epstein was an American financier and had ties to the rich and powerful. Serious allegations of sexual exploitation and trafficking of minor girls were made against him. Investigation revealed that many of the victim girls were minors. They were lured by luring them with education, money and job and then they were sexually exploited. This case created a stir in America as well as the whole world.
He was convicted and arrested in 2008. He was released on the strength of his strong connections but was arrested again in 2019. This year he was found dead in a New York jail.
Along with the Epstein files, Epstein Island is also being discussed a lot. The real name of this island is Little St. James Island. It was a private island located in the US Virgin Islands. Epstein had taken possession of it. If the victims are to be believed, Epstein committed many crimes on this island and that is why it came to be called Epstein Island.
It has been alleged that Epstein made objectionable photographs and videos of rich, powerful and famous people. Epstein used it for pressure and blackmailing to get his work done. The investigating agencies have also found many digital evidences related to this. Although many evidences are still kept confidential.
Whose names came forward?
The people whose names have appeared in the Epstein files are famous all over the world. These include celebrities like former US President Bill Clinton, current President Donald Trump, Andrew Mountbatten, Elon Musk and Bill Gates.
