Jagran correspondent, Jind. Mid Day Meal Workers Union District Committee has announced to join the nationwide strike on 12th February. In this regard, the strike notice was handed over to Superintendent Wazir Singh in the District Elementary Education Officer's office. The demands of giving minimum salary of Rs 26 thousand, full 12 months salary and all benefits on retirement are being raised prominently by the union.
District Secretary Sunita, Jind Block Secretary Sunita Kumari said that for almost 30 years, mid-day meal workers have been engaged in the work of preparing food for children in government schools, but till date they have not been given the status of employees by the government. Honorarium is also given only for 10 months, whereas the work has to be done for almost 11 months.
He said that schools are being merged and closed and workers' jobs are being taken away. CITU District Secretary Sandeep Jazwan said that mid-day meal workers are being ignored for a long time. Workers are not being paid honorarium for many months. He said that mid day meal workers should be permanent and should get at least Rs 3 lakh on retirement. Uniform allowance of Rs 2,000 should be given. Neelam, Shashi, Rekha and Malkit were also present on this occasion.
