Jagran correspondent, Jamshedpur. The climate of industrial cities like Jamshedpur and Adityapur is about to change. NIT Jamshedpur has approved a technology which will no longer emit poisonous carbon dioxide but only steam from the chimneys of the power plant.

Wasim Akram, a researcher in the mechanical engineering department of the institute and resident of Jugsalai, has prepared a model of green power plant which will not only eliminate air pollution but will also help industries earn from the stored carbon. On Saturday, on the basis of this research, Wasim was recommended for PhD.

What is this new technology?

Generally, after burning of coal or fuel in a power plant, smoke comes out of the chimney, which contains a large amount of carbon dioxide. It makes the air poisonous. Wasim has used pre-combustion carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.

Understand it this way, carbon is separated from the fuel even before it burns. After this process, what will come out of the chimney will not be a cloud of smoke, but clean steam. This will have a direct impact on the Air Quality Index (AQI), which will provide pure air to people to breathe.

Boon for Jamshedpur and Adityapur industrial area

This research can prove to be a boon for Jamshedpur and especially Adityapur Industrial Area. Here hundreds of factories and power plants spew smoke day and night. With the implementation of this technology, not only will the pollution level come down, but it will also become easier for the industries to follow environmental rules.

Dr. Parmanand Kumar, HOD of Mechanical Engineering Department, said that this research is an excellent example of circular economy. In this technology, the carbon dioxide that will be captured will be stored instead of releasing it into the air.

Later it will be processed and converted into industrial product, which can be sold in the market. This means the prices of mangoes and kernels will be reduced, pollution will also end and additional income will also be earned.

Miracle of Jugsalai's son

Wasim Akram did this research under Prof. Sanjay and has been completed under the direction of Dr. MA Hasan. His work was reviewed by Dr. SPS Rajput, senior professor of MANIT Bhopal and termed it excellent and recommended him for PhD.

Wasim's three research papers on this subject have been published in international journals, which is proof of its quality. Director of NIT Jamshedpur, Prof. Gautam Sutradhar congratulated Wasim and his guide. He said that such green technology is needed to achieve India's goal of Developed India-2047.

This research will play an important role in making India self-reliant in the field of green energy. Whereas Dean Academic Prof. MK Sinha described it as important for future energy needs.
