Girdhari Agarwal, Buxar. Mahashivratri, falling on Krishna Chaturdashi of Phalgun month, will be celebrated with reverence and devotion on 15 February (Sunday) this year. Two days later, on February 17, due to Bhaumvati Amavasya, religious activities will intensify in the city.
On Mahashivratri, there is a possibility of huge crowd in the city due to bathing in Ganga, special worship in Shivalayas, procession and mundan ceremony of children.
Acharya Amarendra Kumar Shastri alias Saheb Pandit told that Shivratri is celebrated every month on the Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha, but the Shivratri falling on Krishna Chaturdashi of Phalgun month is called Mahashivratri, which has special religious significance. This time Mahashivratri will be celebrated in Chaturdashi including Trayodashi.
He told that Trayodashi Tithi will arrive on 14th February at 3.10 pm, which will last till 4.23 pm on 15th February. After this Chaturdashi Tithi will start.
Best worship during Nishitha period:
According to Acharya Shastri, Amritkaal and Abhijit Muhurta are considered auspicious for worship on Mahashivratri, but according to the classical rituals, Chaturdashi Vyapam worship during Nishithkaal is said to be the best. Worshiping Lord Shiva at this time gives special results.
Special time for Mundan Sanskar:
He told that the coincidence of Mahashivratri and Bhaumvati Amavasya is considered very auspicious in the Panchang for the Mundan Sanskar of children. For this reason, a large number of devotees are likely to arrive from the city and surrounding areas.
A grand procession will take place in the city:
On the occasion of Mahashivratri, grand tableaux of the Lord of Gods, Mahadev Shiva and other Gods and Goddesses will be taken out from two localities of the city. This procession will pass through the main roads of the city, which will create a devotional atmosphere in the entire city.
Worship Mahashivratri like this:
Devotees of Shiva should fill an earthen pot with water or milk, add Belpatra, Aak-Dhatura flowers, rice etc. and offer it to Shivalinga. On this day, recitation of Shivpuran, chanting of Mahamrityunjaya Mantra or Panchakshar Mantra 'Om Namah Shivay' is considered especially fruitful. Besides, there is also a tradition of night vigil on Mahashivratri.
