State Bureau, Kolkata. BJP is laying its chessboard for the upcoming political war in Bengal. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has chosen the area, which is considered the strongest stronghold of Trinamool Congress, to launch the 'Parivartan Yatra' in the state. Amit Shah will start this grand yatra from Raidighi in South 24 Parganas on March 1.
strategy to break into the fort
In political circles, this decision of Shah is being considered as a direct challenge to Mamata Banerjee. South 24 Parganas district has been Trinamool's 'impenetrable fort' for the last 18 years. Even during the Left rule in 2008, Trinamool had won the Zilla Parishad elections here.
At present, 30 of the 31 assembly seats in the district are held by Trinamool and one seat is held by the Indian Secular Front (ISF). BJP does not have a single MLA here.
Attack on Abhishek Banerjee's sphere of influence
This district is also the electoral constituency of Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. BJP insiders believe that Shah has deliberately chosen this 'weak' organizational area to energize the workers and send a message that the BJP is not going to back down anywhere for a change of power in the state.
Statewide campaign on 1-2 March
BJP will take out this yatra in 9 out of 10 organizational divisions of the state. On March 1, along with Raidighi, the journeys will also start from Cooch Behar South, Krishnanagar South, Kulti and Gadbetta. The campaign will start in the remaining four divisions the next day. During this period, apart from Amit Shah, veteran leaders like JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and Devendra Fadnavis will also take charge in different areas.
While the Trinamool claims that the BJP "will not be able to sink its teeth" in this district, Shah's launch of the campaign from Raidighi shows that the BJP is preparing to directly attack the walls of the ruling party's fortress this time.
