State Bureau, Patna. Bihar's Cooperative Minister Dr. Pramod Kumar has said that the state is going to explore the possibility of cooperative based farming on the lines of Gujarat.
He was addressing the press conference organized in the dialogue room of the Information and Public Relations Department on Monday. He said that there are small pieces of land in the state.
Therefore the possibilities of cooperative based farming have increased. There is a big center of Tilkut production in Gaya. But sesame comes there from other states including Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu.
Discussion on possibilities of sesame production
Possibilities of sesame production can be explored with the help of cooperative farming in Gaya. He said that we are also working in the field of storage.
Three cooperative societies have been formed at the national level, in which also a large number of members are from Bihar. The minister said that so far 29.22 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been purchased in the Kharif marketing season 2025-26.
The target is 36.85 lakh metric tonnes. Rs 6,400 crore has been paid to farmers as minimum support price.
28 thousand cooperative societies in Bihar
Secretary of Cooperative Department Dharmendra Singh said that today about 28 thousand cooperative societies are functioning in Bihar. This number is going to be very big.
A cooperative society is being formed in every village by Comfed. There are 144 primary committees working at the block level to promote honey production. Makhana producer cooperative societies are also being formed.
