Jagran correspondent, Rajpura. There was widespread anger in the area after the case of alleged desecration of Sri Gutka Sahib near Rajpura railway station in Punjab came to light. According to the information, Sri Gutka Sahib was recovered from a person, some of whose parts (pages) were found torn. As soon as information about the incident was received, local people gathered at the spot and the atmosphere became tense.

According to eyewitnesses, people caught hold of the alleged accused and even beat him up in anger. Later he was handed over to Rajpura City Police. The police took immediate action and registered a case against the accused under Section 295A (hurting religious sentiments) and Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.

During police investigation, the accused has been identified as Lucky, resident of Mirch Mandi, Rajpura. The case took a new turn when the family of the accused came forward and claimed that Lucky was mentally disturbed and was undergoing treatment. His mother said that their family is Gursikh and Guru has a deep attachment to the house. He says that Lucky himself has been a Pathi before and cannot do such an act intentionally.

Police appeal to maintain peace

SHO Gursevak Singh said that the recovered Sri Gutka Sahib has been beautified in Gurudwara Baba Sangat Singh with full religious dignity. Police have appealed to the people to maintain peace and avoid rumours.

There is a sensitive situation in the area after the incident. The police is investigating from every aspect under what circumstances this incident took place and whether there is any conspiracy behind it or mental condition became the reason for it. The administration has clarified that if found guilty, strict action will be taken as per law.
