Advocates and others giving information in the camp. Awakening

Jagran correspondent, Bettiah. A legal awareness camp related to the land acquisition of Bettiah Raj was organized in the auditorium of Baliram Bhawan, the district office of the Communist Party of India. The camp was presided over by CPI District Secretary Om Prakash Kranti.

Yogesh Chandra Verma, senior advocate of Patna High Court, President of Lawyers Association and member of All India Bar Association, raised serious questions on the property of Bettiah Raj and the existing law related to it.

He said that the law related to Bettiah Raj has been made in haste without understanding the ground reality. This will increase the number of cases in Bihar and may create a situation of agitation and anarchy.

He clarified that all the lands of Bettiah Raj are not the same. Many lands were given to the British with ownership rights at the time of the king, while people have been living on many lands for years by farming, doing business and building houses. It is not justified to evict such people.

Patna High Court advocate Sandeep Kumar also presented his views on the land and current law of Bettiah Raj. Representatives from many areas including Bairia, Nautan, Chanpatia, Majhauliya, Yogapatti, Narkatiaganj, Sathi, Bettiah and Lauria were present in the camp.

Speakers said that people who have been settled for 50 years are being mentally tortured by giving notices. In the end, it was decided to hold a protest in front of the District Magistrate in the month of March demanding to give ownership rights and lease to the people settled on the land of Bettiah Raj and to withdraw the impractical law.
