Paddy Procurement Stalled In Darbhanga: Farmers Worried Due To Lack Of FRK And Funds, Doubt On Target

A symbolic picture has been placed on it.

Jagran correspondent, Darbhanga. The state government has extended the date for purchasing paddy from farmers through packs from February 28 to March 31. Due to the problem of FRK (fortified rice kernels), paddy procurement from farmers in the district has come to a standstill for 20 days.

PACS does not have money to buy paddy from farmers at government rates, due to which farmers are forced to sell paddy at throwaway prices from local farmers. So far, 33946 metric tons of paddy has been purchased from 6146 farmers.

Paddy procurement has been stopped in the district for 20 days due to non-supply of FRK to rice millers. Rotation of funds is stopped due to non-deposit of rice to SFC.

Due to PACS not having money to purchase paddy, farmers are forced to sell paddy in the market at throwaway prices. The target has been revised thrice in the district.

According to the present situation, despite revising the target, the target does not seem to be achieved. According to the District Cooperative Office, initially the target of last year was reduced by 15 percent and was set at 84078 metric tons. After that the target has been revised to 76742 metric tonnes and now the target has been revised to 61742 metric tonnes.

33,946 metric tons of paddy purchased

According to the report of DCO office, 14918 farmers have registered online to buy paddy from farmers at government rates. So far, 33946 metric tons of paddy has been purchased from 6146 farmers. Whereas 5719 farmers have been paid.

Farmers are being exploited

PACS are not purchasing paddy from farmers at the government rate fixed rate of Rs 2365 per quintal. Lakshminarayan Chaudhary, a farmer from Manikpur in Biraul, said that he has about 150 quintals of paddy.

When the PACS president was asked to purchase paddy, he said that five kg of paddy would be deducted from every quintal. PACS Chairman says that if you will not cut the paddy then give the paddy at the rate of Rs 2850. Most of the farmers in this area have sold their paddy through packs like this.

No cash credit from bank

Laheriyasarai Trade Board President Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary, Jale PACS President Subhash Kumar Thakur etc. said that two lots of rice each have been given to SFC. But PACS is not being billed by SFC. For this reason, cash credit is not being given by the bank. None of the packs have money to buy paddy. Due to this reason paddy procurement has come to a standstill.

FRK is being supplied from FCI. No money is to be paid to the rice miller in this. If the supplier has demanded money from the miller then it is illegal. Last Monday, 20 quintals of FRK were supplied to three Usna rice millers. So far, 126 lots of rice have been supplied to SFC through various packs. 94 lots of rice have been paid to the PACS.- Nishant Kumar, Manager in-charge, SFC.

The date for paddy procurement in the district has been extended to March 31. The target has been revised. It has been approved from the state level. The revised target has been approved in the District Task Force meeting. So far, 55 percent of the paddy of the revised target has been purchased.- Sanjeev Kumar, District Cooperative Officer in-charge, Darbhanga.
