After exposing the cough syrup smuggling network that extended to Bangladesh, the SIT is busy searching for the accused, but Pappan Yadav, an accused involved in smuggling, on Tuesday dodged the SIT and surrendered in ADJ court number three. The court sent the accused to jail in judicial custody. Many other accused had earlier taken stay on arrest from Allahabad High Court.
ADGC Rajesh Chand Sharma said that on November 3, the police raided the fish warehouse on Meerut Road and recovered a huge quantity of cough syrup loaded in four trucks. The value of the recovered goods was estimated to be around Rs 3.5 crore.
Police had arrested Saurav Tyagi, resident of Makanpur, Shadab, resident of Kaila Bhatta, Shivakant alias Shiv, resident of Kanawani, Santosh Bhadana, resident of kiln number five, Ambuj Kumar, resident of Daurala, Meerut, Dharmendra Kumar, resident of Sheshpur village of Sultanpur, Deepu Yadav and Sushil Yadav, residents of Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh. Whereas on November 4, at Nandgram police station, the police arrested Saurav Tyagi and Vishal Upadhyay, the owner of Vanya Enterprises, who supplied the goods to him, including Dharmendra Kumar Singh, Deepu Yadav, Sushil Yadav, Ambuj Kumar, Shivakant alias Shiv, Shadab, Santosh Bhadana, Pappan Yadav, Asif, resident of Radhna village of Kithore police station area of Meerut, Wasim alias Nanu, resident of Nanu village of Sardhana, Abhishek Sharma, Varanasi. A case was registered against residents Shubham Jaiswal, Sumit Rana, Kamal Maurya and Sonu.
Considering the seriousness of the investigation, the police had formed a three-member SIT. Three accused are abroad. Asif, a resident of Meerut, was in Dubai while Wasim has fled to Dubai. The information about Varanasi resident Shubham Jaiswal fleeing to Canada was spread rapidly, although the police did not confirm it.
Earlier, Meerut residents Asif and Abhishek Sharma had filed a petition in the High Court, seeking protection from arrest. The court had ordered the police not to make arrests in this case until the next date or until the charge sheet is filed. Rajendra Nagar resident Pappan Yadav surrendered in ADJ court number three on Tuesday. The court sent the accused to jail under the NDPS Act.
