Jagran correspondent, Jalandhar. There was an atmosphere of chaos at the bus stand of Jalandhar on Saturday afternoon when the police and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) team started taking action against the children employed for begging. The teams picked up the children.

During this time, allegations were made that children were forced to sit in the vehicles, the women present there got angry. Due to crying children and protest of women, the commotion continued at the bus stand for about 20 minutes. Police said that complaints were being received at the bus stand for a long time.

Police allege that some families are begging their children and not sending them to school. On the basis of these complaints, the police, women police personnel and child protection team took joint action at around 1 pm on Saturday afternoon.

When the children started crying, a crowd gathered

During the operation, when the police started picking up the children, the women of the family present with them got into a tussle with the police. It is alleged that women police personnel forcefully snatched children from women and made them sit in vehicles.

During this time the children started crying loudly, seeing which a crowd of people gathered outside the bus stand. Handling the situation, the Legal Permission Officer made all the children sit in the car, while he himself left the place with the team on a motorcycle.

The team took the children to the civil hospital

Later the CWC team took the children to the Civil Hospital for medical examination. The Legal Permission Officer said that all the children will be medically examined, after which they will be taken to the CWC office and counselled.

The official said that using children for begging is a legal offense and this action was necessary keeping in mind the future of the children. Police say that these families live in Ghas Mandi and surrounding areas of Jalandhar and make children beg at the bus stand every day.

Woman's allegation- They were just talking on the phone

At the same time, Messer, a woman from Uttar Pradesh present at the spot, alleged that she lives in Ghas Mandi and was standing at the bus stand talking to her husband on the phone, when the police forcefully took away her children.

The woman claimed that her two daughters, aged 10 and 12, were taken to an orphanage by the police even though the children were not begging.
