Pollution increased demand for these things in Delhi.

Digital Desk, New Delhi. Due to increase in pollution level along with winter cold, people are facing burning sensation, redness in eyes and difficulty in breathing. In such a situation, there has been a rise in the sales of eye drops, masks and nebulizers at medical stores in Delhi.

Chemists say that every year due to increasing pollution in Delhi, the demand for eye care products and medicines for respiratory diseases increases. Suresh, chemists at Lutyens Delhi, said, “Whenever pollution levels increase, there is a marked increase in the sales of eye drops, nasal sprays and masks.

Demand for eye drops is continuously increasing

They usually find that cough syrups are the best sellers, but this season eye drops are selling more rapidly. Chemist Shravan, who works at Ram Pharmacy near RML Hospital, said that nowadays people are coming more with complaints of burning sensation and redness in the eyes. He further said, “Eye drops, steam inhalation instruments and nasal sprays are selling more than usual and their demand has increased significantly.”

Amit Gupta of Rajkamal Chemists said dryness caused by cold weather and pollution is one of the main reasons for the increase in eye drop sales. He said, "The prices of eye drops and nasal sprays have easily increased by 10 to 15 percent. In this season, eyes dry up quickly due to extreme cold and pollution."

Delhi Drug Traders Association says that this seasonal trend is well known. "Every year, as winter approaches and pollution levels rise, we see a seasonal increase in the sales of eye drops, masks and related items," said Ashish Davraj, general secretary of the union. He said that eye drops are one of the most in-demand items during this period.

What do customers say?

Customers also say that their visits to the pharmacy have increased significantly. "Earlier, one medicine was enough for a household. Now we are buying eye drops for the elderly, masks for school-going children and tablets for ourselves," said Amit, 24, standing outside a pharmacy. Another person said that it costs a lot to go to the hospital, so we go to the pharmacy and try to treat ourselves with medicines and home remedies.
