Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. Mayor Dr. Basundhara Lal flagged off the Water Aid promotional vehicle as part of the district level awareness campaign focused on safe drinking water and water management from the Municipal Corporation premises. The main objective of this campaign is to make common citizens aware of the importance of clean water and water conservation.

At the same time, training was given to all the bodies by the Water Aid organization in the Corporation Auditorium. Resource person of the organization, Dr. Shashidhar told that a person consuming bottled water can get cancer. However, only plastic bottled water was distributed among the people present in the training. Due to this, some people were disturbed by the difference between words and actions.

3.5 lakh children die every year due to lack of clean water

Dr. Shashidhar said that even RO water is not safe. He described the water from the hand pump as safe for health. According to him, if you are consuming bottled water then Cancer Express will run in the coming days. As soon as the lid of the bottle is opened, many harmful bacteria will enter. When a plastic bottle is heated, some of its parts dissolve in water.

The water of RO machine made of plastic and fiber is a cause of cancer instead of being pure. Earlier people used steel and bronze vessels to store water. But in recent times the use of plastic has increased. Drinking its water causes digestive problems and then insomnia.

Drinking water companies are charging more money in the name of nutrition. He said that there is 97 percent water on earth, out of which only two to three percent is suitable for drinking water. Today 4.5 million people do not have access to clean water. Every year 3.5 lakh children die due to lack of clean water.

There is a need to conserve water

Today there is a dire need to conserve water. If we do not improve our lifestyle, there will be no drinking water left on earth by 2050. Nine planets like Earth will be needed again. Water is being exploited from underground. Due to this, even the glaciers are melting rapidly. Where there was a blanket of snow in 1931, there is now a blanket of grass. The 34 meter high ice layer is melting every year.

In Bihar, 50 percent of the ponds have been destroyed in the last 40 years. Colonies and farms were built there. There was no arrangement for water harvesting. Water is being wasted due to open taps running under Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal Yojana. Water is being wasted from household tanks for 20 to 40 minutes. Today the water level is going down. Today water is not available from Samarsebul even at a depth of 350 feet.

Bhagalpur is also in danger zone. Borewells are being drilled here to a depth of 450 feet. If we withdraw water and do not recharge it, the ground will sink even without an earthquake. 80 percent of the water is being used in agriculture and 20 percent in homes. Water will have to be used less in agriculture sector. Water is priceless, use it as much as you need.

Pollution in Ganga is increasing due to use of chemicals. The amount of arsenic has increased on the banks of Ganga. Arsenic has now entered our food chain. Through the publicity vehicle, people in different areas of the city and district will be educated about modern methods of water management and prevention of diseases caused by contaminated water.
