Jagran correspondent, Gayaji. Monday brought hope and happiness for thousands of parents in Gaya district of Bihar. 4544 children were selected in the lottery organized for 25 percent reservation in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The lottery process was conducted with complete transparency in the District Education Office and schools were also allotted to the selected children. There are 597 private schools registered with the Education Department in the district, where arrangements have been made to provide free education to children of weaker sections and disadvantaged groups.
9575 children had registered online through Gyandeep portal for the session 2026-27. Of these, 9050 applications were approved after scrutiny by the Block Education Officers (BEO).
Out of these accepted applications, 4544 children were selected through lottery. Now the selected children will have to reach the allotted school with their educational documents and get enrolled. The Education Department has set March 10 as the last date for nomination.
There has been a significant increase in the number of children selected this year as compared to last year. In the session 2025-26, 4321 children were registered, out of which 2594 children were selected through lottery.
At the same time, this year 9575 applications were received and 4544 children were selected and allotted schools. It is clear from this that awareness about RTE has increased among parents and more families are coming forward to take advantage of this scheme.
Under the Right to Education Act, 25 percent seats in private schools are reserved for children from disadvantaged and weaker sections. The process of online application was adopted through Gyandeep portal, which ensured transparency. After verification by BEO, a fair lottery was conducted on the remaining eligible applications.
